Major League Baseball has signed an official deal with Stance that will make them the official sock provider of the MLB. The multiyear deal will start with the 2017 season, but some marketing efforts could appear as soon as this year's MLB All-Star game, where Stance will offer a Home Run Derby sock for both the National and American League teams. This is the first time the MLB has sold that sponsorship category, giving Stance another breakthrough, which it had previously done with the NBA. Stance didn't just show up with a checkbook, before Stance approached the MLB it developed a new performance sock that wicks moisture, offers super breathability, and cushioned around the ankle where the cleat often digs in. Stance aimed to solve an issue that MLB players currently faced in order to close a deal. And it worked! Players who tested the socks were super impressed.
The new deal between the MLB and Stance will replace the old method of each MLB team ordering their own socks from several different companies. Stance will aim to work with each team to coordinate a look that fits the team whiling bringing fun back into socks. However, players will still be able to wear opt-out as long as the socks they are wearing are unbranded.
