Nike Plans to Make Self-Lacing Sneakers for the NBA

Ivan Antunes October 26, 2015

First imagined 30 years ago in Back to the Future II, people have waited 30 years to finally see a pair of auto lacing sneakers in action. Nike isn't just stopping there, after finally debuting the technology Michael J. Fox wore in the 1980s film, Nike plans to introduce the self-lacing technology and other features across other platforms. Bloomberg recently sat down with Michael Park, CEO of Nike. According to Bloomberg:

“Nike is planning to use sensors and computing power to control body temperature and get the perfect fit, said a person in attendance, who asked not to be identified because it was a private talk”
— Bloomberg

In reference to sneakers made for players in the NBA. Also keep in mind Nike will start an official partnership as uniform provider for the NBA in 2017-2018. The Nike Mags are scheduled to release via auction next year, which gives Nike plenty of time to test and implement the reconfigured technology system for mass production. Stay tuned with SneakerShouts as more info unfolds!
